Warning: QuArK 6.6.0 Beta 3 is HOT off the press!

No, you haven't been forgotten, because here it is:

QuArK Beta 6.6.0 Beta 3 has been spotted in the wild!

Yep, and as usual, many fixes, improvements and new features all over the place! Especially in the Model Editor: you've just gotta try it out!

With good changes all over the place, it's difficult to list everything that has changed. So here's the major highlights:

Both Editors:

  • Added a horizontal scrollbar in the treeview.
  • You can now "uninstall" gamemodes: just delete the addons-directory of that game.
  • Added IWI loading; this is the texture format used by Call of Duty 2 and higher.
  • Fix a major slowdown in the progressbar drawing routine.

Map Editor:

  • Some games want textures with Alpha in a different format; this fixes a saving-texture problem in Quake 3 mode.
  • Grayed out beziers can now not be selected in views anymore.
  • Fix some problems with the FAKK2 and EF2 compilers producing bad BSP filenames.
  • And various improvements here and there!

Model Editor:

  • Completely revamped vertex Linear draglines system, increasing its reaction and drawing time to twenty times faster(!).
  • Added full Vertex U,V Coloring support to the bones Specifics page.
  • Added asi model format importing plugin.
  • ASE model exporter can now export .cm collision model files.
  • Added a .md3 model importer, with tag support.
  • Added a .md5mesh and .md5anim model exporter, with bone support.
  • Support started for granny .gr2 model importing with bones.
  • Added complete section in the InfoBase Docs about tags with F1 links, the new Bones, Vertex Color and Weights.
  • Added support for animation interpolation - (computation of added movement to emulate game action).
  • And lots and lots more! Just try it out, and you'll see!

See NEWS.txt for more details about changes and fixes. Also, see DONATORS.txt for people that made this release possible. Thank you all!

Small Wine-patch for QuArK 6.6.0 Beta 2

For those of you who are trying to run QuArK on Wine, and are running into trouble trying to start the map editor (an error message like "AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'mapsearch'" will be displayed), a patch for it is here.

Note that these are all the instances of this bug I could find so far: there probably are more. If you still encounter a similar error when trying to start QuArK on Wine after applying the patch, please contact me through the forums and I'll fix it ASAP.

Happy mapping,
DanielPharos

Website moving

Because of the imminent IGN shutdown, we're already moving things over to SourceForge. Here's a link to the new website: http://quark.sourceforge.net/. It seems SourceForge has faster webservers. happy smiley

This process probably will break a lot of links, but it's (currently) still a work in process, and we'll be fixing any broken links we find. So please stand by...

Since the main page is now on SourceForge, we'll be posting a redirect on the planetquake.gamespy.com site soon. The forums will remain there for a while, but eventually they will be put in so-called 'maintenance' mode and also moved to the new website. The redirect-pages will remain to the very end, but will disappear after the end of August, so keep in mind to update your bookmarks before then!

Happy browsing,
DanielPharos

IGN shutting down

You probably know it by now, but IGN is going to shut down free hosting at the end of August this year. Since the QuArK website is hosted by them, this affects us too. Don't worry though: we've already found a good candidate to copy this website over to: our project-website at SourceForge. More info about this all on our forums here.

Happy browsing,

Still alive; new website theme!

In the category of 'funny, but useless things', here's one: a new theme for the website! Go to the layout-page, and switch to the brand new theme! (It kinda requires an up-to-date browser though.)

Yes, I know, I have better things to do. happy smiley

You've had to wait a long time, but finally it's here and it was well worth the wait!

QuArK Beta 6.6.0 Beta 2 has been released!

With many many many changes and fixes, including some very interesting features in the Model Editor! Don't forget to check those out! Just to name one: a complete boning system!

Also, there now is a single option which allows you to change the Source game used. Just change that option and Kablam!: your compiler-settings are now configured to map for Counterstrike-Source! Or Half-Life 2: Deathmatch! Or any other Source game QuArK supports!

Both Editors:

  • A one-click game-change configuration option for Source games!
  • Several fixes to image loading and saving (mainly PCX and VTF).
  • Console.log functionality: log everything from the console into a file!
  • Lot of minor changes and fixes to renderers, especially OpenGL.
  • Fixed a long-standing bug: The AutoSave-setting was not being applied.

Map Editor:

  • Added partial support for loading Call of Duty 2 maps.
  • Complete update of the WarsowEntities by X7, good job and thanks.
  • Added new functions and handles for Half-Life 2 and other games.
  • Small fixes and tweaks all over the place ... too many to list!

Model Editor:

  • Setup new QuArK Model Editor Python model import export system, with a lwo, md2 and md5 importer, and a lwo and md2 exporter.
  • Setup of Specifics\Arg page for model types data and settings.
  • Importer/exporter logging capabilities.
  • Infobase updated: lots of more functions are now documented properly.
  • Added a boning system!
  • Shaders used by models can be displayed and edited.
  • Lots of minor fixes and changes. New icons, extra options, new functions ... too much to list!

See NEWS.txt for more details about changes and fixes. Also, see DONATORS.txt for people that made this release possible. Thank you all!

So... stop wasting your time and get your copy of QuArK 6.6.0 Beta 2 now!
